With the whole world of television focused on high definition receivers with the cable and satellite services all touting a large number of HD channels it is easy to get wrapped up in the frenzy.  And according to the advertising by the cable and satellite service companies the only way to get the HD channels is with their service.  But there is another alternative for your HD reception and it is much less expensive.  In fact for less than one month’s cable rental you can purchase an alternative solution.
 
So what is this other solution?  Well the solution is not very fancy and in fact may remind you somewhat of grandpa’s old rabbit ear antenna that sat on top of his big old TV, usually with tinfoil dangling from one of the ears.  But grandpa’s rabbit ears don’t work anymore because the US government decided that the old TV signals took up too much air space and required too much energy to broadcast.  So in the US this has all been converted to a digital signal and many to a high definition signal, which most of us assumed required a new HDTV and a HD cable or satellite service.  But, what many of us did not realize is you don’t always need cable or satellite to receive local stations.  The alternative is what is known as a HDTV antenna.
 
What is an HDTV antenna?  Well, in may ways the indoor models resemble grandpa’s old rabbit ears. It is positioned to pick up the digital signal from local broadcasters and deliver it to your HD enabled TV.
 
Is an indoor or outdoor HDTV Antenna best for you?  Generally speaking the outdoor or outside mounted antenna will have the best reception without interference from your home or other electrical appliances.  However, be sure to check your local codes before making the decision to go with an outside antenna.  Plus many times, especially if you are close to the source of the signal, an indoor antenna is all you will need.
